Photochromic Prescription Sunglasses FAQ

What are photochromic sunglasses?

Photochromic lenses automatically adjust tint depth: clear or lightly tinted indoors, darken quickly when exposed to outdoor UV sunlight. They offer built-in full UV400 protection and can be crafted into prescription lenses for vision correction. They eliminate the hassle of switching between regular glasses and separate sunglasses.

Can I get photochromic lenses with my prescription?

Yes, photochromic prescription lenses are available for most sunglass and eyeglass frames. They adjust tint automatically per UV exposure while correcting eyesight and providing full UV400 protection.

Do photochromic lenses work while driving?

Not really. Car windshields block most UV rays, so photochromic lenses hardly darken inside vehicles. They darken normally under open outdoor sunlight but remain nearly clear while driving behind auto glass. Polarized prescription tinted lenses may be more ideal for driving use.

Are photochromic lenses good for cycling and running?

Photochromic lenses adjust to changing light - helpful when you move between shade and sun. However, they may not get dark as quickly or deeply as dedicated tinted lenses, especially on very bright days. For varied routes and mixed light, they are a decent option.

Can I get photochromic lenses in different colors?

Yes, but the color options are usually more limited than standard tinted lenses. Common photochromic colors include gray, brown, blue, red, and sometimes green or amber. If you prefer a specific vibrant color for style, a fixed‑tint lens might be a better fit. We offer several photochromic choices - feel free to ask about current availability.
