Flip-Up Prescription Sunglasses FAQ

What are flip-up sunglasses?

Flip-up sunglasses have lenses that can be lifted up and locked in place. When flipped up, you see through your regular glasses; when down, they work as tinted or polarized sunglasses. Our flip-up models support a wide range of prescription options.

Are flip-up sunglasses good for driving?

Yes, flip-up sunglasses work well for driving. They solve the problem of needing sunglasses for bright sun and clear glasses for tunnels, parking garages, or cloudy conditions. One finger flips them up or down.

Are flip-up sunglasses different from clip-ons?

Yes - they are different in design, attachment method, and how you use them.
Flip-ups are permanently attached to your frame with a hinge; they can't be lost like clip-ons. Clip-ons are removable and attach with metal clips or magnets. Each has advantages and disadvantages.

Do flip-up sunglasses work for progressive lens wearers?

Yes. Flip-up sunglasses work extremely well for progressive lens wearers.
In fact, they are one of the best solutions for people who wear progressives and need sun protection. The tinted portion covers your entire lens, so all three zones (distance, intermediate, and near) work exactly as they should.

Do flip-up sunglasses work with high prescriptions

Yes, they work. The base frame can be fitted with customized high-index thin lenses to reduce edge thickness, and the flip-up sun shield remains unaffected regardless of prescription power.
